Fodboldklub reddet fra islamisk overtagelse

Den legendariske fodboldklub Liverpool FC bliver alligevel ikke solgt til et arabisk konsortium. Liverpools ledelse lå ellers længe i forhandlinger med det muslimske Dubai International Capital og kun de sidste formaliteter manglede da de amerikanske forretningsmænd George Gillett Jnr og Tom Hicks trådte til med et bedre bud.

Flere engelske klubber kommer på udenlanske hænder i disse år, mest prominente blandt dem er Malcolm Glazer’s overtagelse af Manchester United og den russiske gangster Roman Abramovich’s køb af Chelsea. Arsenal’s spillerere løber rundt med ordet Emirates på trøjerne - i fuld offentlighed! Og de spiller på et stadion der hedder Emirates! Men Liverpool FC blev altså reddet fra en sådan grum skæbne.

Liverpool FC er Englands mest vindende klub gennem tiden, skønt de ikke har været så succesfulde siden 80′erne, hvor den store dansker i klubben hed Jan Mølby.
