Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Players advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing the ball while running) or passing it to teammates. The objective is to outscore the opponent by making more field goals (worth two or three points, depending on the distance from the hoop) and free throws (worth one point).

Basketball emphasizes skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defensive strategies. The game is governed by a set of rules established by various organizations, the most prominent being the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The sport is known for its fast-paced action, athleticism, and strategic plays, making it a popular recreational and professional activity worldwide.
