Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by throwing a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end, elevated to a height of 10 feet (3.05 meters). Points are scored through field goals, which are worth two or three points depending on the player’s distance from the hoop, and free throws, which are worth one point each.

Basketball combines elements of physical fitness, strategy, and teamwork, requiring players to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball while navigating defensive maneuvers from the opponent. The sport is governed by a set of rules that dictate gameplay, fouls, and violations.

Basketball is played at various levels, including amateur, collegiate, and professional leagues, with the National Basketball Association (NBA) being one of the most prominent professional organizations worldwide. The sport has a global following and is known for its fast-paced nature and high-scoring games, contributing to its popularity across different cultures.
