Ole Sohn er fra flere sider blevet kritiseret for sin deltagelse i paraden, eftersom han ifølge kritikerne på denne måde måtte siges at bifalde de omfattende krænkelser af menneskerettighederne, som det østtyske diktatur udførte på bl.a. politiske modstandere. Ole Sohn deltog, som formand for Danmarks Kommunistiske Parti, i hyldesten af DDR ’s 40-årsdag den 7. oktober 1989.
